Burton Announces Dates for the 13th Annual Burton European Open Snowboarding Championships

Innsbruck, AUT (Sept. 15, 2011) – Winter is just around the corner, which means that Burton Snowboards and LAAX are starting to prepare for the 2012 Burton European Open (BEO), taking place from January 7-14. Presented by MINI, this year’s BEO is the 13th edition of the event and promises to be more awesome than ever since 13 is Burton’s „lucky unlucky“ number.

To celebrate this standout year, the BEO will once again introduce a unique creative theme that will encompass all parts of the event – from the slopestyle course design to the look and feel of the website and parties. This year’s theme is, outer space’ and promises to deliver out of this world slopestyle and halfpipe competitions.

Over the years, the BEO has become Europe’s premiere on-snow event with over 400 riders competing, among them the world’s best riders as well as amateurs. It is a true open event for men, women and kids and is often called out as riders’ favorite snowboard competition of the season. The BEO is also where many young snowboard stars started to shine, thanks to its youth competitions that draw young, up-and-coming riders from all over the world.

In addition, the BEO is the second event of the 2011/12 Burton Global Open Series and a 6Star TTR event. So important points for both the BGOS as well as the TTR ranking will be on the line. Riders who compete at the BEO will also have a chance to win this year’s version of the Creative Use of Space (CUOS) award by MINI. Worth a total of $85,000, the CUOS awards include three key elements: most creatively built slopestyle feature, most creative trick utilizing the CUOS slopestyle feature and most creative halfpipe trick.

Stay tuned for more details on the 13th Annual BEO as the event gets closer to launch.
